Spring is in the air....... (well,nearly!)

We all know February is cold, bleak and being at home (all the time) really isn’t much fun.    So to help shift the winter blues, Mundys Valuer, Chris Laughton  (who also happens to be an avid gardener), is going to be sharing a series of blogs providing plenty of tips and details of jobs to be done in our gardens, to assist you, if you are thinking of moving.

Chris, who spends as much of his free-time in his garden says ‘February is the ideal month to start setting the stage for the up-and-coming year.  After all, the garden is the one place Boris say we can still enjoy.  For those who are considering moving house during 2021, now  is the perfect time to start getting your outside space looking its best for potential buyers’.

If your home is going on the market now, a good starting point is to clean (ideally with a pressure washer) driveways, paths and decking.  A bit of housekeeping on weed covered beds and a cut-back of bedding plants is the next job.  Unruly shrubs and trees will also require some attention – remember your outside space will look more appealing to potential buyers if these simple tasks are completed.

Winter baskets and tubs located at the front door add life, colour and always look welcoming.   The ideal plants to include are winter flowering pansies, primroses and spring flowering potted bulbs are a quick and effective way to brighten up the gloomiest of days.

Chris’ list of Gardening Jobs to complete in February:

Mulching bed - add a few inches of well rotted garden compost or manure to your flower beds. This helps fertilise your soil and feeds you plants and shrubs plus also stops weeds from growing.

Cut down deciduous, ornamental grasses left standing over winter, before fresh shoots appear this will keep your garden looking  tidy.

Sprinkle slow-release fertiliser around the base of roses and other flowering shrubs.

Cut back Wisteria shoots to 3 buds this will encourage new flowering shoots for summer.

Divide congested clumps of herbaceous perennials and grasses to make vigorous new plants for free.
