The History?

Eagle is a very old village. It dates back to at least Saxon times.It got its name from a Saxon word, aecle  meaning an oak tree.Eagle is in the original Domesday book.
In the twelth century King Stephen gave the manor of Eagle to the Knight Templars.They owned it until the fourteenth century.They were suppressed and the manor was given to the Knight Hospitallers.Then in the middle of the sixteenth century they were suppressed and it was given to the Earl of Rutland.
